Ban on Comet gift cards is lifted by administrators

shoppers have been given the go-ahead to exchange gift cards for goods at the stricken electrical retailer Comet after a temporary suspension was lifted yesterday.

Deloitte, which was appointed last week, is hunting for a buyer for the business in a bid to protect some 6,600 jobs at the 236-outlet chain.

Vouchers purchased and paid for in full by customers can be used again after the administrators suspended their use as they assessed the business.

However, Deloitte said it was necessary to maintain the temporary suspension on gift cards which have been issued to people on behalf of a corporate
customer.

Neville Kahn at Deloitte, said: “We recognise that the temporary suspension of gift cards has caused concern and anxiety to those customers affected. In the short time available since our appointment, the Administrators have worked urgently to bring clarity to this matter.”
