BA boss hits out at union over strikes

BRITISH Airways boss Willie Walsh launched a scathing attack on union bosses today following the announcement that there will be seven days of strikes by cabin crew.

Mr Walsh, the chief executive of BA, described the move as "another cold-blooded threat" to the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Around 7,000 people a day use the airline to go between Scotland and London, with 14 flights operating from Edinburgh.

Mr Walsh accused the union of being blind to the difficulties the airline faces in the "worst recession for 80 years".

A spokesman for BA in Scotland said all flights between Edinburgh, Glasgow and London City Airport would run as normal as that route was operated by its CityFlyer subsidiary, whose staff were not involved in the ballot.

Three days of action are due to start on 20 March, with a further four beginning on 27 March.
