Assange marks six months with speech

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is to deliver a message from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London today to mark six months since he sought sanctuary there.

The Australian will step on to the embassy’s balcony for only the second time since he arrived on 19 June as part of his bid to avoid extradition to Sweden.

The 41-year-old is wanted for questioning over allegations of sexual assault, but fears being sent to the United States to be quizzed over the publishing of top secret US documents, including dossiers on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, on his WikiLeaks website.
