Armed Forces Day flags up a week of celebrations

THE Armed Forces Day flag is flying above landmarks across the country ahead of annual celebration of the UK’s soldiers, sailors and air crews.

The head of the armed forces, General Sir David Richards, said Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday, was a chance for the nation to show its support for service personnel and veterans.

In Lossiemouth, local regiments and squadrons joined together to march through the town.

Elsewehere, former EastEnders and Carry On star Barbara Windsor waved the Armed Forces flag in London to kick off the week of celebrations.

Chief of the Defence Staff said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the nation to show its backing for the armed forces.

“We are very grateful for all the support you give us. It makes a difference to every soldier, sailor and airman to know that you value them.”
