APPLE prices are expected to rise to 80p per kilo this year, 60 per cent up on last year's prices.

The Grocer reported that apples hit a low of 50p per kilo at major supermarket chains in November, but the price rose to 69p per kilo last month.

The magazine today said that growers expect the price in the coming months to reach 80p per kilo, the same as two years ago.
