Another day and another dollar

“Zombie”, “booze” and “dollar” are among the English words featuring in a new exhibition revealing the global reach of the language.

The British Council has released a comprehensive list of words as part of a major new exhibition at its headquarters, exploring the impact and value of the English language around the world.

One of the exhibits reflects the many countries and cultures with which the English language has come into contact throughout history. Dollar, the most frequently used, originates from the German word taler, a coin first minted in 1519.
