Animal charity hails work of volunteers

VETERINARY charity the PDSA has paid tribute to thousands of volunteers who have helped it save more than £10 million a year, ahead of Volunteers' Week, starting today.

The charity said its 5,000 volunteers, most of whom help out at its chain of charity stores, played a critical part in helping the PDSA in tough times, especially as the recession had led to a 25 per cent increase in demand for its services.
