The Scots record label boss was invited to a private dinner with the former prime minister at his official country residence, Chequers.

Presenter Savile, who has since been exposed as a predatory paedophile, was also a guest on the night, along with actress Dame Judi Dench.

Mr McGee, who discovered Oasis and helped turn them into one of the biggest bands in the world, told how the DJ spent the whole evening pestering his wife Kate.

He said he felt like punching Savile, but did not want to embarrass Mr Blair by causing trouble.

The incident happened in 1999, when Mr Blair was courting Oasis and Mr McGee, who ran their record label Creation.

Mr McGee, 53, said: “We drove down to Chequers in the limo.

“Tony and I had a ten-minute discussion about Blur and Oasis, then we turned round and, ‘now then, now then’, Jimmy Savile walked in with a security guy.

“’This can’t get any more bizzare,’ I said and Tony burst out laughing.

“At dinner, Kate was between Jimmy Savile and Judi Dench. Savile started to hit on Kate, kissing his way up her arms, kissing her fingers.

“I was thinking, ‘what a dirty old man’, but at Chequers it’s not done to break Jimmy Savile’s nose.

“Kate came over and said ‘He’s a pervert’. He left her alone once she was next to me.”

Mr McGee described Savile as a “gangster” and told how he had been disturbed at how well connected he was.

He added: “I couldn’t tell he was paedophile, but there was an edge to him, a quiet menace, the threat of violence.

“I come from Glasgow, I can tell when someone is dangerous.

“I could tell he was connected. He was over 70, but I’m convinced he was a gangster.

“In fact everyone was trying to avoid Savile that weekend. Why he was invited I don’t know.

“It was as if he was the host rather than Tony. He was speaking to the whole table, except when he was trying to suck Kate’s fingers.

“It really shows the connection he had to the Establishment. I don’t think we’ve heard the half of what he got up to.”

Savile, who died aged 84 in 2011, was exposed as a serial paedophile last year.

McGee recounts the story in his new book Creation Stories: Riots, Raves and Running a Label.

He and Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher attended a Downing Street reception following Mr Blair’s 1997 election win.

However, he said he soon realised that they were being “used” by the Labour Party to boost Mr Blair’s popularity.

Mr McGee said: “In the end I realised they weren’t listening to me.

“Oasis’s support of the Labour Party, and their huge success at the time, did give Blair a sense of being the man of the moment. They used us and got what they wanted.”
