Airport baggage handler jailed for stealing from passengers’ luggage

A HEATHROW Airport baggage handler was jailed for six months yesterday for stealing from passengers’ luggage, police said.

The offences took place while Alan Bardall, 52, was responsible for scanning luggage tags to ensure that it was being sent to the right destinations. But he abused his position to steal two laptops, a camcorder and aftershave with a combined approximate value of £2,000, Isleworth Crown Court in west London heard.

One of the laptops belonged to an American student and contained a whole year’s worth of coursework, while police were able to trace the owner of the camcorder. Bardall, of The Gardens, Feltham, Middlesex, was sentenced to six months for six counts of theft and four counts of attempted theft.
