Aircraftsman lands top prize for copter capture

A MERLIN helicopter comes in to drop off its precious cargo on a snowy morning while on a flight trial at RAF Brize Norton in December last year.

The photograph is one of a number celebrated by the RAF as part of its annual photographic competition.

Some of its finest imagery is on display during the contest this month, culminating in an awards ceremony at the historic Royal Air Force Club in London.

For 22 years, the RAF has held the prestigious competition in recognition of the skills and high standard of work of their trained photographers.

The aim of the competition is to highlight the fact that the RAF remains a global force and is on active service in dangerous operations around the world.

The image forms part of Best Single Photograph Depicting the RAF Operational Experience. Only darkroom techniques were used on the picture.
