93–year–old takes UK skydive record

The UK’s oldest female skydiver is celebrating her latest adrenalin-pumping stunt after plunging 10,000ft from a plane.

Pat Oakes, 93, is 30 years older than the previous female record-holder who scooped the title at just 60 years old.

The great-grandmother from Solihull, West Midlands, took the leap of faith in a tandem sky-dive in Peterborough, Cambs, and has even been offered a free jump when she reaches the grand age of 100.

Mrs Oakes said: “I could see all of these beautiful fields and villages.

“They said I could come back for free on my 100th birthday, but I think I’ve done all I am going to do now.”

It is not the first time that she has risked life and limb to get her fair share of thrill-seeking, and has also abseiled for charity.
