400 jobs axed as more Clinton Cards shops close down in Scotland

More than 400 people have lost their jobs after another wave of stores were closed at collapsed retailer Clinton Cards.

The group, the UK’s biggest specialist cards retailer, went into administration last month, although 397 of its stores were sold to Ohio-based American Greetings yesterday, saving 4,500 jobs.

Administrators at Zolfo Cooper yesterday closed 43 of the 330 stores not included in the deal, leading to 408 redundancies.

They included five Scottish shops – Clinton Cards in Ayr, East Kilbride, Braehead and Inverness, and Birthdays in East Kilbride.

The administrators closed 44 stores last month.
