29st man died after gastric band burst

A 29-STONE man died days after having a gastric band fitted when the staples around his stomach burst open, an inquest has heard.

Richard Meredith, 34, a father of one from Leicester, paid 10,000 for the surgery in 2008, which reduced his stomach to the size of a golf ball. But he started feeling unwell and died in hospital from an infection.
