12% of drivers ‘have night sight problem’

Almost one in eight drivers admit that they struggle to see properly at night, research suggests.

Of 1,000 people surveyed, 12 per cent said they have difficulty with their vision when they are behind the wheel in the dark.

Drivers should complete an eye test to assess their night vision, researchers said.

Graham Cox, professional services manager at the vision correction specialist Ultralase, which conducted the research, said he fears the figure could be much higher.

“The difficulty is that drivers will have spent their whole lives seeing lights in this way, meaning they have no means to assess whether their vision is impaired unless it’s professionally tested,” he said.
