According to the Independent, a total of 1000 children were asked a multiple choice question as part of a Netmums survey: “Who is Jesus Christ? a) A footballer for Chelsea b) Son of God c) TV presenter d) X Factor contestant or e) An astronaut.

Astonishingly, one in five of the children surveyed at a North London shopping centre chose option a).

The results also showed that 25 per cent of children think shepherds in Bethlehem found the infant Jesus using Google Maps, and over half thought that Christmas Day marked Santa Claus’s birthday.

While it’s possible the children could have been thinking of Manchester City winger Jesus Navas, it’s unlikely Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho would want another ‘special one’ at the club.

We’re also reminded of the graffiti that appeared under a church notice board in Liverpool in 1965.

Q: “What will you do when Christ comes to lead us again?

A: “Move St John to inside-right.”
