UK News: Three in five voters 'think cuts unfair'

THREE in five voters believe Chancellor George Osborne's spending cuts are unfair, according to an opinion poll.

The ComRes survey found 59 per cent considered the cuts unfair as the poorest would be hit, while 30 per cent accepted the claim the better off would bear the brunt.

Majority 'have no will'

NEARLY two-thirds of Britons do not have a will despite the majority knowing who they want to receive their money, a survey has found.

Around 62 per cent of people said they did not have a will, rising to 70 per cent among those with children under 18, according to the unbiased.co.uk website.

Aid worker tells of Somalia hostage ordeal

A BRITISH aid worker abducted by masked gunmen in Somalia spoke publicly about his ordeal for the first time.

Zimbabwe-born Frans Barnard, who was working for Save the Children, said he was kidnapped as he watched television.

He was released on Wednesday after being held for six days and was taken to safety in Nairobi, Kenya.

A spokesman for the charity said no money was involved in securing his release.

Youth drinking rise

THE number of under-18s admitted to hospital due to drinking has risen by a third, according to a new report.

The figure went up by 32 per cent between 2002-07, with 36 children a day admitted for alcohol-related conditions, the study by charity Alcohol Concern found.

In all cases, more young girls were seen by ambulance crews than young boys.

Cameron to lead EU revolt

PRIME Minister David Cameron will lead a revolt next week to try to force the European Union to make cuts, he said today.

He said he has already had talks with the leaders of France, Germany and the Netherlands, adding: "We need an alliance to block increases."
