PUBLIC sector workers are to be told they will have to pay up to £3000 a year more to keep up their pension schemes, it was reported today.

Call to give supermarket watchdog power to fine

A NEW supermarket watchdog should be given the power to fine the food giants for unfair treatment of suppliers, a parliamentary committee said today.

The Government is committed to introducing legislation to create an adjudicator to investigate alleged breaches of the grocery industry Code of Practice, which came into force last year. The Commons Business Committee wants financial penalties to be available from day one.

Hep C transplant fears

MORE than 4000 people in England may need a liver transplant by 2020 because of hepatitis C, experts say.

New data suggests around 4200 people could need a transplant owing to serious damage to their liver, with many unaware they have the condition at present. An estimated 216,000 people in the UK are living with chronic hepatitis C - many undiagnosed.

Italian break for Cameron

DAVID Cameron has chosen a luxury villa in Tuscany as his summer holiday destination, it has emerged.

The Prime Minister will spend a fortnight in an 18th-century villa, with swimming pool and tennis court, near the town of Mercatale Valdarno in the Chianti region.

Manchester: An elderly shopkeeper was due to be questioned on suspicion of murder today after a man trying to rob his flower shop was stabbed to death. The 72-year-old pensioner, named locally as Cecil Coley, is believed to have been involved in an altercation when a number of men entered his florist's outlet in Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Sussex: A train was stopped for nearly an hour after a passenger climbed on top of one of the carriages. British Transport Police said a 39-year-old man was removed from the top of the train near Durrington station.
