UK News: Prescott link to fresh phone hacking claims

SCOTLAND Yard has identified a number of new potential victims of phone hacking, including former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott.

The Metropolitan Police is now contacting those involved, as detectives have an "important and immediate" new line of inquiry to follow.

Clegg faces resistance over scale of cash cuts

DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg is facing resistance from Liberal Democrat council chiefs over the pace and scale of the coalition government's spending cuts.

An open letter signed by 88 local Lib Dem heads, including 17 town hall leaders, warned that the cuts would damage the economy and hit the most vulnerable. They accused Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles of "letting down" users of council services and refusing to work with councillors.

COALITION tensions have flared again with the resignation of a senior Liberal Democrat figure over the government's handling of the banks.

Lord Oakeshott quit as a Treasury spokesman last night, hours after savaging Chancellor George Osborne's deal with the banks. He said the Treasury's negotiating team had been guilty of "arrogance and incompetence".

Dakota's crowning glory

TWILIGHT star Dakota Fanning is to play Princess Margaret in a new film which will explore her teenage years with her sister, the Queen.

The movie, Girls' Night Out, will begin filming later this year, according to film industry bible Variety.

Newport: Detectives were today questioning a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murdering teenage mother-to-be Nikitta Grender. The heavily pregnant 19-year-old was discovered stabbed to death at her burnt out flat on Saturday morning.

Yorkshire: A new offshore wind farm which will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 150,000 homes has been given the go-ahead by the government. Energy company E.ON was granted permission to build the 77-turbine Humber Gateway wind farm, which will be sited around five miles off the Holderness coast in Yorkshire.
