UK News: MPs urge MoD to get grip of stock control

THE Ministry of Defence has been urged by MPs to get a grip of stock control problems which have left it unable to account for billions of pounds' worth of military equipment.

The MoD's accounts showed it lost track of assets worth 6.3 billion - including 184 million-worth of radios.

Blair says Prince Charles was 'immensely helpful'

TONY Blair has defended the Prince of Wales as "immensely helpful" after the former prime minister was quoted as saying Charles was "screwing" his government.

According to extracts from Alistair Campbell's diary, published on Saturday, Mr Blair believed the Prince went too far in getting publicly involved in sensitive political issues like fox-hunting and genetically modified foods. But the former premier stressed today that he "welcomed" his contributions.

Dowler parents sue paper

THE parents of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler are suing the News of the World over claims a private investigator working for the newspaper hacked into her phone after she went missing. Bob and Sally Dowler said the deletion of messages had given them "false hope".

Call for adoption changes

A REPORT into the state of adoption services has called for the transformation of the "hopelessly slow" system.

Martin Narey, former chief executive of the charity Barnado's, said adoption was the "golden option" that could solve many of the problems endured by some of Britain's most vulnerable children.

Mr Narey made some 19 recommendations for changing the system.

Derby: Britain's last remaining train-making company was today expected to announce around 2,000 job losses. The bad news from Bombardier follows its losing out to Germany on a lucrative contract to build 1200 new rail carriages at its plant in Derby as part of the 6 billion Thameslink rail upgrade.

Sussex: A pilot died after he managed to steer his light aircraft into a recreation ground avoiding houses after being in a mid-air collision with another plane, according to police. The incident was reported close to Shoreham Airport, near Brighton, at around 4.28pm yesterday.
