UK news: ITV profits treble as advertising recovers

BROADCASTING giant ITV reported a near trebling in annual profits today as it benefited from a bounce-back in advertising revenues and hit shows such as Downton Abbey and The X Factor.

The group posted underlying pre-tax profits of 321 million for 2010, up from 108 million in 2009.

USING cannabis as a teenager or into young adulthood increases the risk of psychosis, experts have warned following new research.

Researchers examined data of psychotic episodes for more than 1900 people who were aged 14 to 24 at the start of the study.

Evidence sparks call for new Kelly death inquiry

FRESH information about the absence of fingerprints on items found near the body of government scientist David Kelly has strengthened the case for a full inquest into his death, campaigners have told the Attorney General.

The claim comes in a new dossier of evidence handed to Dominic Grieve yesterday by doctors who are petitioning for the reopening of inquiries into the Iraq weapons inspector's 2003 death. Mr Grieve is expected to announce within weeks whether he will comply.

E-type is 'best car ever'

AUTOCAR magazine today voted the iconic Jaguar E-type the best car it has ever road-tested.

The magazine, which began road tests in 1928, tested the E-type in March 1961.

Now, 50 years on, the legendary vehicle received the Autocar accolade for "its beauty, power, diving pleasure and design". Second place in the best road test table was the McLaren F1.

Gok's super new designs

TELEVISION presenter Gok Wan is to design his first clothing range, to be sold under the Sainsbury's Tu label.

The How To Look Good Naked star will create a number of womenswear collections, with the first due to reach shelves this autumn.

Portsmouth: Chimpanzees mimic the laughter of their playmates even if they do not find the situation as funny. Researchers at the University of Portsmouth, have shown that the apes do not just ape the expressions of their social partners. Chimpanzees appear to use laughter to strengthen social bonds, like humans.

London: Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest stage spectacular The Wizard of Oz has met with broadly positive reviews. The show, which features Danielle Hope in the role of Dorothy following a TV talent search, was unveiled last night.
