UK News: Government is 'prime target' for cyber attack

DEFENCE Secretary Liam Fox has warned that the Government is fighting a "continuous battle" against cyber attackers - with the number of incidents doubling over the past year.

The Ministry of Defence is a "prime target" and has dealt with more than 1,000 attempts to breach security in 12 months.

Volatile commodity prices increase UK's cost of living

FOOD bills increased at the fastest pace in nearly two years last month as volatile commodity prices continued to lift the UK's cost of living.

Food inflation hit a 23-month high of 4.9 per cent in May, up from 4.7 per cent in April, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The rising costs of raw materials - wheat was up 72 per cent and oil was 50 per cent higher - have been driven by dry weather and demand from emerging markets like China.

100,000 homes planned

As many as 100,000 new homes could be built on land currently owned by the state over the next four years, under government proposals. Every Whitehall department with a large landbank has been instructed to publish plans by the autumn on how it will release space for building.

There will also be "build now, pay later" schemes to help companies overcome cashflow issues.
