UK News: Gadgets are go go for modern consumers

CONSUMERS are spending almost half their waking hours watching TV and using their mobiles and other communications gadgets, a study said today.

The research by Ofcom found the average person spends 45 per cent of their time awake absorbing media or communicating via gadgets.

Female bosses fail to break the glass ceiling

WOMEN managers saw their pay rise by 0.5 per cent more than men last year - but it will still be more than 50 years before their salaries are the same as their male counterparts.

The pay of female bosses rose by 2.8 per cent in the last 12 months, but they earned 10,000 less on average than male managers.

At the current rate, women managers will not be paid the same as men for 57 years, said the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Call for jail 'revolution'

PRISONS fail to address the needs of inmates with mental health issues, and reforms should focus on more community-led alternatives to short jail terms, a charity said today.

Backing Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke's calls for a "rehabilitation revolution", mental health charity Together said reforms could cut reoffending rates and slash costs.
