UK News: Clean-up under way in flood-hit Cornwall

A MAJOR clean-up was under way today as flood-battered Cornwall recovered from devastating torrential rain.

Residents, businesses and council staff were removing flood water and inch-thick mud from homes, shops and streets after floods forced 100 homes to be evacuated.

Abbey is royal favourite

WESTMINSTER Abbey emerged today as the firm favourite to be the venue of Prince William's wedding after being visited by his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton.

The 28-year-old paid a brief visit last night to the Abbey, which hosted the wedding of the Queen and the funeral of William's mother, Diana.

Four held after man is found dying in van

DETECTIVES were questioning four suspects today in connection with the murder of a man who was found dying in the back of a van.

Armed officers acting on a tip-off pulled over the vehicle in Sunningdale, Berkshire, and discovered the fatally injured man inside.

When the van was stopped at about 1pm, four men tried to escape. Three were quickly arrested but officers had to use a helicopter to find and capture the fourth man.

Population fears for UK

WHITE British people will be a minority in their own country by 2066, a population expert has claimed.

Professor David Coleman, of Oxford University, said the demographic group would make up less than half the population in "little more" than 50 years.

He said the decline will be caused by record levels of immigration and the migration of thousands of Britons abroad.

Sheffield: The Queen was set to open a 12 million world-leading research centre dedicated to the study of Motor Neurone Disease today.

She was due to visit Sheffield University to officially unveil the state-of-the-art research institute which is set to be a leading centre for studying the disease.

Sussex: Two men arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a 27-year-old woman were being questioned by police today. The victim, who has not been named, was found seriously injured in a Volkswagen Passat car in Woodfield Road, Crawley, just after 6pm on Tuesday.
