UK News: Cameron urges G8 to stick with aid vows

BRITAIN will urge world leaders to make good on aid promises today after warning that failing to help fledgling democracies could create more immigration and extremism.

Measles outbreaks bring levels close to 2010 total

MORE than 330 cases of measles have been reported in the first three months of 2011 - similar to the whole of last year.

Data from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed 334 confirmed cases of measles to the end of April in England and Wales, compared with 374 in all of 2010. Small outbreaks have been noted in universities and schools, while some people caught the disease abroad as Europe faced a surge in measles cases.

Laws brought to book

LABOUR'S rush to get its legislation on to the statute book before last year's general election resulted in a record number of laws being made in 2010.

In total, 3506 laws were introduced in the UK last year - up a massive 41 per cent on the previous year and the equivalent of 13.8 every working day, according to research by legal information provider Sweet & Maxwell.

Essex: A fundraiser has bumped a world record holder off the top spot by completing the longest dodgem car marathon. Laura Byng, 28, from Southend, completed the bone-shaking 25-hour feat at the town's Adventure Island fun park.
