UK News: Cameron to appeal over EU budget costs

David Cameron will appeal to fellow European leaders today to keep next year's EU budget as low as possible.

The Prime Minister is set to agree that the 107 billion budget will increase by at least 2.9 per cent in 2011, despite previous British demands that it should not rise at all.

Miliband urges Lib Dem MPs to block benefit cuts

LABOUR leader Ed Miliband called on disgruntled Liberal Democrats today to help him block coalition plans to cut housing benefit.

He said he wanted to force a Commons vote on the issue and exploit Lib Dem divisions to defeat the government.

Mr Miliband urged Lib Dem MPs to defy leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to "vote with their consciences".

"I hope they will vote with their consciences when it comes to issues like housing benefit," he said.

UK nets 100bn on web

THE internet is worth 100 billion a year to the UK economy, a report said today.

It represents 7.2 per cent of the country's gross domestic product, more than the construction, transport and utilities sectors, researchers at US consultants Boston Consulting Group found.

The share is likely to grow to 10 per cent by 2015, putting the internet's contribution on a par with the financial sector.

Bury: A gun and ammunition were found by two children playing on an embankment. Greater Manchester Police said the two 13-year-old boys had been playing in the area when they found the items in a bag near the M62 motorway. The gun had six bullets in the magazine.
