Two women killed in a road collision near Stow

TWO women have died in a road crash in the Borders.

The incident happened on the A7 Galashiels to Edinburgh road yesterday afternoon, when two cars collided north of the village of Stow.

The 67-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Polo died at the scene and a 95-year-old passenger in the other vehicle, an Audi A6, died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary today.

The male Audi driver and a second passenger were also taken to hospital with injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses to the crash, which occurred at around 4.35pm.

Sergeant Brian Smith said: “Tragically, this incident has resulted in the death of two women and we are now working to establish exactly what happened.

“I would ask that any motorists who were on the A7 near Stow yesterday and have information that can assist with our investigation contacts police immediately.”
