Two people hurt in city centre fire

A MAJOR road through the centre of Edinburgh was blocked for almost two hours yesterday afternoon after a fire broke out in a pile of rubbish dumped in a tenement stairwell, injuring two residents.

A woman was taken to hospital and a man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene after the blaze broke out on Lothian Road at about 3pm.
