Two more in court after man dies in disturbance

TWO more men appeared in court yesterday following a major disturbance that left one man dead and another injured.

Stephen Johnston, 37, died on 24 June in Dr Gray's Hospital in his home town of Elgin, Moray. A 22-year-old man was also injured and treated at the same hospital. Police were called to a disturbance in Lesmurdie Road at about 3.30am that day.

James Stewart, 35, and Lindsay Stewart, 41, both from the Moray area, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday and were charged with mobbing and rioting.

Neither made any plea or declaration and they were both committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

A total of nine people have been arrested in connection with the disturbance and the others have already appeared in court.

Jamie Nicol, 25, of Elgin, was charged with murder, attempted murder, theft and mobbing and rioting at Elgin Sheriff Court. He was remanded in custody.

Daniel McArthur, 20, and Dale Wilson, 25, both of Elgin, were remanded in custody after they were charged with murder, attempted murder, theft and mobbing and rioting.

Wilson was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon and drug possession. Neither man made a plea or declaration.

Andrew Watt, 22, known as Wilson, of Elgin, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, mobbing and rioting and theft. He made no plea of declaration and was remanded in custody.

The four have all now been fully committed.

John Stewart, 31, of Moray, Robert Clark, 40, from Elgin, and Steven Stewart, 30, from Burghead, were charged with mobbing and rioting.
