Two men jailed for shooting and stabbing drug dealer in busy pub

TWO men who shot and stabbed a drug dealer in a busy Edinburgh pub were sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday.

Dean Scott, 28, and David Coutts, 21, were jailed for nine years and one year and eight months respectively for an attack on James Carlin at the Jock's Lodge pub earlier this year.

Mr Carlin was shot and stabbed in the leg during the incident, which happened on 3 March.

Scott and Coutts had entered the pub about 8:30pm and confronted Carlin, who was with friends. Scott shot Carlin in the leg with a handgun, while Coutts stabbed him in the back of the leg.

Detective Chief Inspector David Gordon said: "The reckless and dangerous nature of Dean Scott and David Coutts's actions … serve as a further reminder of the danger that serious and organised criminals pose to the public. Lothian and Borders Police is committed to bringing these criminals to justice and dismantling the networks in which they operate
