Two men in hospital after city assault

Two men needed hospital treatment after they were attacked in a city centre as they headed home after a night out. One man was slashed in the face while the other was struck on the head.

The pair, aged 24 and 25, were walking north on Renfield Street in Glasgow when they began chatting to a girl and were then attacked by two men. They were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment and have since been released.

Strathclyde Police appealed for information about the assault, which happened at about 1.20am yesterday on the stretch of Renfield Street between Bath Street and Sauchiehall Street.

Detective Constable Blair Duncan said: “The injured men had been out for an evening in the city centre and were walking up Renfield Street towards Renfrew Street to get a taxi they had called to go home. Between Bath Street and Sauchiehall Street, they got chatting to a girl and then, for no apparent reason, they were confronted by the two suspects and set upon.

“At first glance it may have looked like four men fighting, however this was not the case and it would appear that the two suspects grabbed weapons and attacked the two men.

“The 24-year-old man was viciously beaten and has suffered injuries to his face that will leave significant scarring. The 25-year-old was struck on the head.”

He appealed to the girl who spoke to the two men before they were attacked to contact police. She was white, with long dark hair and was wearing a leopard print top, black skirt and high heels.

The suspects are both described as white, in their 20’s, and spoke with Liverpool accents.
