Two lead probes into university suspensions

ABERTAY University has appointed two external investigators to examine the suspensions of both the vice-principal and principal, it emerged last night.

The principal, Professor Bernard King, was suspended by the university's ruling court, it was revealed earlier this week.

That followed the suspension two weeks earlier of his deputy, Prof Nicholas Terry.

It is understood the decision to suspend him was not taken by the court.

Earlier this week, the university said the two suspensions were separate and that an independent investigation would take place.

Last night, a spokesman confirmed two people had been appointed to carry out separate investigations into each case. However, he was not able to reveal the names or professions of those appointed.

Yesterday, it emerged that the university is to spearhead a Westminster government drive to help British companies stay at the forefront of the money- spinning video games industry.

Ed Vaizey, the minister for the creative industries, visited Dundee to launch officially a video games "prototype" fund which will be used to support ideas for potential hits in the games market.

A total of 2.5 million will be made available to help small video games companies to develop their ideas, using the skills and expertise of students and graduates at the university.
