Two killed in late-night car crashes

Two men have died following separate car crashes yesterday morning.

One was killed when a car hit a tree by the B7015 Livingston to Stoneyburn road just before 1am, Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said.

Police named him as Kevin Pryde, 30, from Polbeth, West Lothian. He was the front-seat passenger in a Peugeot being driven by a 22-year-old man. A second male was taken to hospital. The road was closed for several hours for inquiries by investigators from Lothian and Borders Police.

Just after 3am there was a single-vehicle accident on the A9, around three miles north of Spittal, in Caithness. One man died at the scene and another was taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick.

Police closed the road as part of their investigation.
