Two held over murder of Scots soldier

TWO youths were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a Scottish soldier who died following an assault in a nightclub.

Andrew Gibson, 19, from Glasgow, died five days after being attacked in a nightclub in Darlington, County Durham, on 12 December.

Mr Gibson, based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, was due to fly out to Afghanistan for a tour of duty in January after spending Christmas with his family.

Durham Police said the two youths, aged 16 and 17, were being questioned at Darlington.

Mr Gibson was with friends in the Esplanade nightclub when he was punched and knocked unconscious. He was put on a life support machine but never recovered.
