Two held after shooting at Trident base

TWO naval staff were detained by military police after a shooting at the home of the UK's nuclear submarine fleet, it was revealed yesterday.

Ministry of Defence police were called to the Faslane naval base on the Clyde on Friday following reports that a weapon had been discharged from an accommodation block.

Officers recovered an air rifle from a room and detained two people described by the MoD as members of the naval service.

The incident happened at HMNB Clyde at around 1.20pm.

The base is home to the Trident nuclear weapons system. A spokesman said: "No-one was injured during the incident, and the investigation was handed over to the Royal Navy Service Police."
