Two girls in island rescue

TWO schoolgirls were recovering yesterday from the effects of exposure after being stranded on a small island in the middle of a river for several hours.

The girls, aged 13 and 15, were rescued on Sunday night after they became stranded on an island in the River Ythan in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

One girl had suffered back injuries and was brought to safety by firefighters using a spinal board and an aerial platform.
