Two face murder charges

Two men have been arrested by police investigating the murder of John Carter, who died after he was found unconscious in a lift in flats in Leith.

Police said that two men, aged 40 and 47, had been arrested and charged in connection with the murder and would appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today.

Mr Carter, 44, from Cables Wynd House in Leith, died on February 27 after being found in a lift at Salamander Court. He was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died there a short time later.

Friends at the Port of Leith bar, where he had been drinking on the night of his death, said he had been "a gentle giant with no interest in fighting", who was always in a good mood.
