Two charged over murder in block of flats

A 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged murder of a 43-year-old man at a block of flats in Moredun.

William McPhee, who lived in the Greendykes area, was allegedly stabbed in Castleview House in Craigour Place at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, and died at the scene.

Both individuals have also been charged in connection with the stabbing of a 41-year-old man, which happened the same evening. They were set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Residents have described the drug abuse, heavy drinking and violence which in recent years has blighted the 15-storey tower block where the man died.

Uniformed patrols have been deployed in the area to provide reassurance to residents.
