TweetDeck company ‘dissolved’ over accounts

A UK company owned and operated by Twitter has been struck off the Companies House register after failing to file formal accounts for the last eight months.

TweetDeck, which produces Twitter clients for so-called ‘power users’ of the messaging platform, was purchased by the American social media giant from its British creators in 2011.

TweetDeck Limited’s operations were integrated with those of Twitter, and the separate company has been allowed to dissolve. Twitter’s UK operations are controlled through a Dublin-based parent firm, known as Twitter International Company.

A Twitter spokesperson said: “TweetDeck the product continues to thrive as part of Twitter, but the old company has been dormant for some time, with no outstanding liabilities; hence our agreement with the move to dissolve it.”

In unrelated news, the mobile versions of TweetDeck are being discontinued later this month, as the app’s nine-person team focus on the desktop version.
