She said she would not like to play dramatic roles in the theatre but fancies a part in a soap or TV drama series.

One of her favourite shows is BBC hospital drama Holby City and the chat show host said she would like a role on that to flirt with handsome doctors.

She said: “It’s funny because I used to picture a 58-year-old as a wee granny with grey hair and a little tartan shopping trolley.

“Well that’s rubbish. I might be approaching my sixties but I don’t see myself slowing down any time soon.

“It feels like I am starting a new chapter. One thing I would like to do next is some acting.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not wanting to be a Shakespearean actress, I just want to have a laugh with it.

“I’d like to be in a bed in Holby City and sort of wave or nod as the gorgeous heart surgeon Matteo wanders by.”

In the interview with Woman and Home magazine, Lorraine said that despite approaching 60 she embraces her status as a sex symbol and enjoys flirting with younger male guests on her show.

She added: “It baffles me that I’m called a sex symbol at 58 but bring it on.

“It’s quite good fun but I have received some very odd fan mail. The worst I’ve been sent is a French maid outfit and a note asking me to try it on and take a photograph.

“I find it hilarious when male guests flirt with me on my breakfast show.

“I always take my lead from them and if they’re a little bit cheeky then I’ll be cheeky back. I know who I can and can’t do it with now.

“When Hugh Jackman comes on, for example, and jokingly says, ‘Let’s go out together,’ I’ll say, ‘Okay, let’s, when are we going out - today, tonight?’ He’s brilliant fun.”

Last summer, Lorraine signed a lucrative deal with ITV to remain as the face of breakfast TV, making her one of the UK’s highest-paid female stars.

The Lorraine show host agreed terms on a two-and-a-half year ‘golden handcuffs’ contract, thought to be worth about £2.1million.

She also made her Saturday night prime-time TV debut last month, co-hosting BBC One’s new game show Wedding Day Winners.

The contest involves two couples competing to win a dream honeymoon and wedding ceremony, which is immediately broadcast on live TV.

Lorraine spends so much time in London that late last year she put her £825,000 home in Broughty Ferry, Dundee on the market.

The TV host said she wanted to spend more time with her husband, Steve Smith, and less time commuting.

Speaking about the sale, she said: “Steve and I want to be together a bit more but that’s not to say we won’t go home a lot as all our friends and family live up there.”
