Police investigating the suspicious death of a Scottish grandmother whose body was found eight months after she disappeared have received a new lead following a televised appeal.

Elizabeth Brown, known as Betty, went missing on 28 May, last year.

The 56-year-old's body was discovered in woods near a disused quarry in Cumbria on 18 January.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Ashton, of Cumbria Constabulary, appeared on the BBC's Crimewatch programme appealing for information about her final movements.

"We received 13 calls last night, including one from a witness travelling on the X95 bus, who thinks they saw Betty talking to a man between Edinburgh and Carlisle," he said.
