TV advert looks to entice autumn tourists to city

A MAJOR new campaign aimed at marketing Edinburgh to autumn tourists is set to get under way.

A new TV advert - airing throughout this month - will see images of the Edinburgh Farmers' Market, Princes Street as dusk falls, the Royal Mile in autumnal light and a sunset behind Edinburgh Castle.

It is hoped the drive will help boost tourism at what is traditionally a quiet time of the year.

VisitScotland has invested 1.5 million in its Autumn Moments marketing drive. The Destination Edinburgh Marketing Alliance (DEMA) and Midlothian Council are investing an extra 18,000 for a separate promotion of attractions within the area.

Alan Johnston, chairman of DEMA, said: "By working with VisitScotland on the campaign we are promoting a consistent message that Edinburgh is a must-visit destination at any time of the year."

A specific focus of the campaign is cuisine, and it tries to benefit from this being Scotland's Year of Food and Drink.
