Tunisia: Scots among 3,500 Britons glad to be home

TOUR operators have repatriated about 3,500 Britons from Tunisia in the last few days, the Foreign Office said.

A number of Scots returned home to Glasgow airport on Saturday night. Shona Habli, 38, from Croy, North Lanarkshire, flew to Tunisia on 2 January and returned with her 19-month-old daughter, Shadleah.

She said: "My husband is Tunisian so we were staying with family which was a good thing and a bad thing because we were obviously in the local areas, which were worst hit."

Senior fire officer Jim Scott, 44, from Ayr, also returned on Saturday. He said: "We were originally told we were relatively safe, but on Friday, within a few hours the country went from quite organised to quite a chaotic state. I found out from the television that a state of emergency had been declared. Then we heard the army had taken control of the airport."

Asked whether he was concerned he may not be able to fly out, he said: "That was a big concern, yes. I'm relieved to be back."
