Trusted Traders setting out to beat the cowboy operators

A NEW scheme to help residents find trustworthy traders has been launched in East Lothian.

Run by Trading Standards and the council, the East Lothian Trusted Trader scheme aims to boost public confidence when choosing companies to carry out work for them.

The first four Trusted Traders were presented with their official accreditation in Musselburgh this week.

Each of the businesses has completed a screening process, with Trading Standards officials checking they meet the necessary criteria.

This includes independent references from customers covering value for money, quality of work and service.

Tony McAuley, manager of East Lothian Trading Standards, said the project “helps Trusted Traders to distinguish themselves from cowboy companies”.
