Trump gets go-ahead to start work on clubhouse

DONALD Trump was yesterday given permission to start work on a temporary clubhouse on the site of his planned championship golf links in Aberdeenshire.

The Formartine area committee of Aberdeenshire Council voted 9-2 to approve a proposal by the tycoon to erect the building for a maximum of three years.

Permission was granted subject to several conditions, including restrictions on lighting.

The committee also voted 8-3 to permit a permanent car park on the site of the resort which is due to open next July.

The Trump Organisation, which was represented by Lord Colin Boyd, the former Lord Advocate, said it was pleased with the decisions.

A spokeswoman said: “We are making excellent progress on site and now have all the necessary components for opening next year.”

The proposals had been recommended for approval by head of planning and building standards Robert Gray.

Objectors raised concerns about drainage, traffic, and loss of wildlife, among other things.
