Trump fury at claim of bias against women

THE Trump Organisation has launched a blistering attack on the main opponents of the Menie estate development over claims that they are discriminating against women.

The latest row erupted after Tripping Up Trump, the organisation established to fight tycoon Donald Trump’s £750 million golf resort in Aberdeenshire, accused him of making no provisions for female golfers in his plans for a clubhouse.

The Trump Organisation’s application to build a Gothic-inspired 19th hole at his championship links at the Menie estate is due to come before a meeting of the area planning committee next month.

The sprawling, single-storey building will be constructed from Scottish granite and slate.

And a floor plan, submitted by the architects, clearly shows a dedicated women’s locker room and female toilet facilities near the main entrance.

But Tripping Up Trump leaders have e-mailed supporters calling on them to oppose the plans on the grounds of alleged discrimination, as one of eight separate grounds for blocking the application.

The Tripping Up Trump message claims: “The proposed floor plan shows a ‘Men’s Member Locker Room’, but there is no corresponding facility for women members. The lack of provision of equal facilities for men and women should be vigorously challenged.”

Sarah Malone, the executive vice-president of Trump International Scotland, described as “nonsense” the Tripping Up Trump claims about an absence of facilities for women.

She said: “Their claims are baseless and nonsensical. They contribute nothing and oppose any form of progress or growth. The North-east has suffered enough of this nonsense.”
