Truckies face parking fight

LORRY drivers are set to fight plans to permanently close the HGV parking area on the Forth Road Bridge.

The Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) has announced that from August 8, truck parking space will no longer be available due to construction work on the new road bridge.

Phil Flanders, the Road Haulage Association's policy director for Scotland, said: "We are currently speaking with Edinburgh council and are looking to come up with a plan to retain lorry parking at the bridge.

"It is hoped that some sort of compromise can be reached."

Councillor Phil Wheeler, FETA convener, added: "Our priority now is to get the message out to drivers and hauliers so that they can adjust their plans in advance of the closure."
