The warning from police comes after thousands of youths flocked to a Troon beach ‘party’ after a social media invite went viral.

10 arrests were made and ‘significant quantities’ of alcohol were confiscated.

Area Commander, Chief Inspector Gary I’Anson commented: “It is great to see residents and visitors coming to our beaches during this spell of good weather.

“I want to remind everyone that we will have additional officers in place to tackle all forms of antisocial behaviour and ensure that everyone can enjoy this weather safely.

“Our work with partners in the Safe Shores initiative has developed year on year resulting in a comprehensive multi-agency plan designed to ensure the safety and enjoyment of those visiting our beaches.

“I would encourage anyone with concerns to approach one of our officers or call us on 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.”

The British Transport Police have also told passengers to take note of alcohol bans on ScotRail services.

South Ayrshire Council commented: “Make sure you stay safe in the sun - drink plenty of water, use plenty of suncream - and then build a sandcastle or two and have an ice-cream. Perfect day!

“And that could mean a long walk home for some of you . . . so remember, no alcohol, no antisocial behaviour - just fun in the sun. Have a great day”
