Tron pub set to go green with Irish revamp

STUDENT haunt The Tron is set to become an Irish bar under plans drawn up by the owners.

Mitchell's & Butlers are rebranding the Hunter's Square pub as an O'Neill's and have proposed a raft of alterations, including an emerald green colour scheme, a new entranceway, an oak staircase, a larger kitchen and reconfigured seating to make it more "diner friendly".

The Tron is particularly popular amongst students for its "Scream" card, which offers discounts on food and drinks.

While the Irish brand is new to Edinburgh, it has been a fixture in Glasgow for years with pubs in Queen Street, Sauchiehall Street and Merchant Square.

As well as operating the Tron and the city's other Scream bar The Crags, Mitchells & Butlers owns Greyfriars Bobby, The Haymarket, the Conan Doyle, Robin's Nest and All Bar One, to name but a few of its 30 or so Capital bars.

City council planners are due to consider Mitchells & Butlers' proposals in August.
