A MAN was attacked by a trio of thugs wearing clothes linked to a local rugby club who pulled up in car before getting out and assaulting him.

The 38-year-old victim was walking with friends in York Road in North Berwick, East Lothian, at around 1pm on Saturday when a small silver car pulled up and three men got out.

One of the men then began punching the victim to the head and body before all three got back into the car and made off.

The suspect is described as white, mid-20s, approximately 5ft 10in tall with a fit build and a plaster cast on his left arm.

All three of the men are believed to have been wearing clothing associated with North Berwick Rugby Club.

A police spokesman said: "Given the detailed description of the suspect and the clothing worn by the men, we are hopeful that someone knows who this individual is and can assist us in locating him.

"We would urge the other two men who did not take part in the assault to come forward.

"Similarly, we are keen to speak to anyone who was in or around York Road and saw anything suspicious."
