Trio in ‘police uniform’ holds up bank in armed robbery

Three robbers dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms have held up a city centre bank.

The men entered a NatWest branch in Glasgow at around 10:40am yesterday and stole cash before escaping in a silver car.

Police said the men threatened a member of security staff, who was making a delivery to the bank, with what appeared to be a gun.

The exact amount of money taken is still being established, but no-one was injured and no shots were fired during the robbery, police said.

The men targeted NatWest bank in Blythswood Square. It is thought only one of the robbers was armed. The getaway car was last seen heading down Blythswood Street, turning right into Waterloo Street and heading on to the westbound carriageway of the M8.

Witnesses said the robbers were dressed in what looked like police uniforms.

Detective Inspector Kate Jamieson, of Stewart Street police office, said: “Extensive police inquiries are ongoing in the local area and police are currently studying CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the exact circumstances and those responsible.”
